POSITION DETAILS:

Under the direction of the Director, the Academic Center Manager will oversee the development and delivery of programs, workshops, public events, and publications for the LaGuardia & Wagner Archives; working with faculty and students to make sure that our collections are an integral part of the learning experience of every student at LaGuardia Community College.

Other responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following, in addition to those outlined in the CUNY Title Overview:

Plan, create and maintain a varied portfolio of program documents, including the Archive’s educational materials, annual history calendar, and additional materials based on research on American and New York City history.

Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff and the public.

Engage visiting classes of students in interpreting primary documents in research and applying critical thinking skills.

Maintains relationships and partnerships critical to the ongoing development and delivery of programs.

Manage and maintain social media for the Archives; (e.g., releasing Email messages to the college community, updating the Archives Facebook page, Blog and YouTube channel. The social media posts will make connections between the Archives and important current events and anniversaries.)

Assists the Director with all aspects of the Archives’ administration including personnel actions, budgeting, purchasing, planning and scheduling meetings, Correspondence, and supervision of staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree and six years’ relevant experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. preferred.  Candidate must have excellent research and writing skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet publication deadlines.

Experience in supervision of staff.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to assist researchers is required.

Extensive knowledge of American and New York history and awareness of related repositories, websites and databases.

Ability to research and write in a creative and fast paced environment while maintaining multiple priorities.

Good understanding of how city government works, give public presentations, and write quickly.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW:

Manages a College’s specialized academic and/or research center operations under the direction of a senior administrator.

-Implements and monitors comprehensive curriculum development program; makes recommendations to improve Center policies and procedures.

-Delivers a schedule of courses and workshops; analyzes programming outcomes

-Oversees Center’s budget and daily administration

-Assists Director with developing funding and resource strategies

-Prepares reports for management; may write grant proposals

-May manage professional and clerical staff

-May act on behalf of Director in his/her absence

-Performs related duties as assigned
