HIA panel at the Spring Symposium

One of the important findings of the AHA Career Diversity Initiative is that only one-sixth of History PhDs end up pursuing careers at Research I universities. The Graduate History Association and History in Action are happy to announce the panel “Columbia History PhDs in the Academy,” which will take place over lunch at 12:30 on Friday, April 21st in the Graduate Lounge (611 Fayerweather Hall). The aim of this panel is to discuss academic career experiences and trajectories in a wide range of institutional contexts.

We will welcome Professors Katherine Antonova (Queens College), Melissa Borja (College of Staten Island), Sheetal Chhabria (Connecticut College), Alice Nash (University of Massachusetts, Amherst), and Lee Pennington (United States Naval Academy) to discuss their professional choices and share their career trajectories. The panel will include opening remarks from each of the participants followed by Q&A and an open conversation with the entire room. The panelists have also generously made themselves available to meet with individual students after the event to further discuss these issues.
